Christmas Eve....or Groundhog Day..??

Steph and I are worn out tonight...so this won't be a long post. We've had so many of you call and text and leave comments here about Avery coming home....you all are so great. She's still just kinda struggling getting on her own two feet with her feedings. She had an exhausting few days...and is just kinda putt-putting along with her weight gaining and bottles. For a few days there...it took her twice as long to take about half the normal amount of milk that she usually does...and her weight gains aren't really tipping the scales. So, she's kinda on stand-by until she can get some momentum.

She's still so sweet and doing well otherwise. She's just not quite ready to leave the NICU behind, apparently. We would rather she gets the kinks out while the nurses and docs are in charge, instead of here at home...at least they know what they are doing! We are doing our best to keep our spirits up... she'll be home soon. It will be so nice to kinda take our lives off of pause...

So sorry. Our son (28 weeker) had passed the car seat test, gotten his immunizations, and was ready to go. But TWO days, just TWO days, before we were scheduled to bring him home he got a UTI. They kept him for TEN more days to run a course of antibiotics. Those 10 days felt longer than the whole 2 months he was there. Knowing you are so close, but yet so far is rough. Sometimes when I'm in the middle of something totally crazy & stressful I try to stop, catch my breath, and tell myself "Some day I will look back on this and say Wow,I made it through that!" I am sending you a giant 'blogger' hug right now! :)

Hang in there. I know how difficult it can be. It seemed like every time Isaac was close to leaving the NICU, something would set us back. Once it got postponed literally 1 hour before we were to leave.

Keep growing, Avery...you don't know this yet, but life will be way better at home with Mom and Dad! :)

Steph,
I found your blog through my friend Maggie Gardner who I met at BYU. This is the first I heard about your early delivery and glad to hear that Avery is making improvements and may get to go home soon (I sat down and read through your whole blog before posting). I hope she's able to go home soon and stay healthy! I'll keep referring to your blog to keep myself updated!
Love, Kasey (from BYU-H)

Oh, she'll be home so soon! Just know that she's where she needs to be right now. It's hard to hear that - I know it was for us while our little girls were in the NICU. Little Avery and our Father in Heaven both know when the right time will be for her to come home. We were supposed to bring Haylee home and we got up to the hospital all excited and ready, filled out all the discharge paperwork, and found out that the neonatologist hadn't signed a particular release paper. He left earlier that day for a two-day vacation, so we couldn't bring her home until we got that ONE signature. ARE YOU KIDDING???!!! As it turns out, Haylee developed a random temp that same night and had to be treated with IV fluids. Had we taken her home earlier that day, we would have had to take her back to the hospital through some nasty emergency room to be re-admitted. What a blessing in disguise...one missed signature..
What I'm trying to say is - there's a time and a season for everything.
